Have you heard of ‘Steam Vacuum?’ Steam Vacuum is the great innovation which made the life of housewife comfortable. The innovator who made this great invention is ‘Han Gyeong Hui’ who is the female CEO that succeed in the business targeting housewife. After she graduated her Ewha Womans University, she joined IOC(International Olympic Committee). After two years working there, she entered graduate school in California. She get the degree at school and had a career in other different company in USA. Finally, as she passed the exam, she became deputy director of education. As we can see, she always challenged to her life and tried to do many different things. Now, she is the hero among mom. Thus, she contributed a lot for housewife in the family and had brought lots of change of thinking .
Among her inventions, the most representative innovation is ‘Steam Vacuum.’ Han Gyeong Hui was a very neat and organized person. So she always cleaned her house with the boiled water. One day, while she was cleaning the house as usual, she suddenly thought it was uncomfortable to boil water every single time. Then, she started to think of the innovative way to clean her house. Finally she came up with the ‘Steam Vacuum,’ and started to develop her idea. She was working as a public official at that time. However, she quitted the job right away because she had the confidence about making her innovation. There were lots of difficulties in the process of inventing it. She had to mortgage her house and parents' house and also spent over 600million won. After 3 years of effort to develop the steam vacuum, finally it came out in the market. However, there were lots of problems in the vacuum such as water leaking. Through lots of trial and error, the vacuum developed and became popular among housewife. This is the process of how steam vacuum developed and invented.
The invention of Steam vacuum changed the quality of life. Most importantly, steam vacuum made the life of housewife more comfortable. Due to the invention, instead of wiping the floor by bending our knees, we can now clean our room in a very comfortable way by just standing still. Steam refers to the hot mist that forms when water boils. Therefore, steam vacuum means the vacuum that contains the function of turning on the steam. Before the invention, people had to get wet towel and then wiped the floor. This was a very uncomfortable way to clean that made mother tired. However, Han Gyeong Hui was the person who noticed the mind of mom so well and devised the invention which brought to a big success. Not only Steam vacuum, there are other invention like steam iron, humidifier, or wet mop iron. Her invention is famous now days throughout the world like China and USA. Therefore, the invention of the steam vacuum relieved the hardship of the housewife.
Furthermore, the innovator had brought lots of change of thinking to the women. The remarkable point of this invention is the person who made this invention. Most of the CEO that had big success was mostly men. However, in this case, the CEO is the women. The fact has brought lots of hope to other women, especially to every mom in the house. She gave hope to women to start new life as a business women. Also, she told people to do innovative thinking. She insisted to get rid of the habit of settling in the present. In fact, after the success of Han Gyeong Hui, many women started their new business and tried to live challenging life. Her success broke the stereotype of the role of housewife. The stereotype that housewife should  work all day only for their family broke and gave many opportunities to the women. Therefore, she contributed to the change of the stereotype of people.
To sum up, the innovation of Steam vacuum changed the quality of housewife life. Due to the innovative thinking of one common housewife, every housewife of the world could be comfortable whenever they clean their house. Not only that but it also led to change of the thinking. We should thank to her contribution and always try not to settle for the present and think creatively. Thinking creatively could make our life more comfortable than today.

Sustainable Future Starts From Our Hands

At the end of the news, weather forecaster often tells people to be careful with the fine dust. As we can find out in this weekend, the weather is often very foggy. As time goes by, pollution in this society are becoming worse. To solve the problem, government and many environment organizations tried lots of solution. Also, there are many treaties between countries to save the environment. Although there are lots of effort came into action, the environment is not getting any better. There are three simple ways to ensure sustainable future by our hands ; which are practicing responsible consumption, using public transportation, and saving water.
First of all, we should consume responsibly to reduce waste. There are many trash thrown out these days because people buy things impulsively without thinking carefully. Before we buy something, we should first think ‘Is this a necessary object to me?’ For instance, a student went to a bookstore to buy a textbook for his class. After buying his textbook, he looked around the bookstore and found other interesting books, and decided to buy those books too. After he came back to his home, he realized the books that he bought were boring and he just threw it away. Thus, his action causes the waste so he should have consumed more responsively. Also, when people buy something in store, they should think of the container or packing that covers the products. We should try not to buy products with packing that are disposable. Over packaging of the product will also cause serious effect in environment. Products like Styrofoam take lots of time to dispose, so to protect the environment and to reduce waste, we should have responsibility on consuming things.
Furthermore, using public transportation is very helpful to reduce air pollution. As car used widely, many people use their own cars whenever they commute or whenever they go to a near in place from their house. This effects environment very bad. When we think ‘it will be okay to use car just for today,’ that’s a wrong idea. When everyone starts to think like that, all the people will use their own car. Consequently, exhaust from each car will make the air pollution even worse. There are lots of public transportation we can use near our house. We have bus station and subway station right in front of each house. In Europe, for example, bicycle is their common transportation. European use their bicycle wherever they go, and the roads of bicycle are also very well organized. In addition, now days there is a smart phone application called 'Big Walk.' When we install this application, whenever we walk 100m, 1 won of donation for disabled children is created. In other words, we can donate money by just walking without using our own cars. This could be another good method that we can use to reduce air pollution.
Lastly, we should save water. People tend to use water very thoughtlessly. We should stop water flowing out from the faucet when we don't use water. For example, when we wash our face, brush our teeth, or wash our hair, there is a moment when we don't use water. However, many people tend to just let the water flow out. Even though people think the amount of water is very small, but when all the people use water like that, the total waste of water will be tremendous. In fact, the amount of wasted water per person in one day is 362 liters. Also, one report told that when we reduce 5 minutes of shower time, we can reduce 9500 liters of water annually. Besides,  when the amount of laundry is small, we can sometimes wash them with hands without using washing machine. Same method could be apply for the dishwasher too. Reducing the usage of laundry machine and dishwater could save water. The amount of remaining water in the world are very small than general thought. So, saving water is a really urgent matter that we should participate.

To sum up, the ways to make sustainable future is not that hard. Sustainable Future can be achieved by starting from our hands. We should try to consume responsively, use public transportation, and save water. These methods of saving our environment can be practiced in daily life. Let's start from saving water when we wash our hands tomorrow morning. This would be a great help for our sustainable future.

The Fear of Young Girl in Copenhagen

Have you ever read the novel, 'The Diary of a Young Girl Anne Frank?' This is a very famous novel that dealt with Jewish holocaust from Nazis. The novel 'Number The Stars,' also dealt with this matter and it is the best novel of selecting the right place that matches the storyline. The story is about ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen rescuing her friend Ellen Rosen from being relocated to concentration camps. The period and the place that the writer set-up in this novel played an important role in developing a story.
First of all, the period of the novel is during World War Ⅱ. Denmark surrendered to Germany in 1940. King surrendered and overnight the soldiers moved in because Denmark was a small country and had no power to defend. From then on, for five years, German occupied the county. In that time, German invaded Denmark and tried to take Jewish to the concentration camps. In this novel, the author focused in one family. The setting made readers feel more fearful because the novel was focusing on young girl's mind. Young girl, Annemarie talked about the time period in a very honest way. She felt fear to the soldiers standing in the street and always tried not to meet them. For Kirsti, a younger sister of Annemarie, soldiers were simply part of the landscape, something that had always been on every corner. Since Kirsti was born, German army occupied Denmark, so Kirsti always saw the scene of angry soldiers standing on the street and that became part of her normal life, which make the story more tragic.
The novel took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. There were lots of soldiers in Denmark at that time to catch Jewish and relocate them in concentration camps. The soldiers were all over the place and were ordered to catch Jewish, so soldiers doubted all the people living there. Also, they punished  people who hide Jewish in their house. At the beginning of the story, there is a scene of Annemarie and Ellen running along the street practicing for the race in school. However, as they reached the corner soldier ordered them to stop running in a stern voice. Soldiers began to asked their name, asked why they were running, and what is in the bag. Young girls were too scared and Ellen was pale and even didn't move at all. At the last part of the story, Annemarie noticed that Peter, her almost brother, was dead. Peter had been captured and executed by the Germans in the public square at Ryvangen, in Copenhagen. Until now, there are concentration camp remaining in Copenhagen where Nazis locked up Jewish and tortured them. Therefore, Denmark was an important place in the story that emphasize the tragic of that time.
To be specific, the main place where the incidents took place was a harbor in Copenhagen. Annemarie's family protected Ellen from getting caught by the soldiers. Also, Ellen pretended to be a Annemarie's late older sister Lise, who died earlier in the war. So, when the soldiers came and asked Annemarie a question about her sister, it gave tension to the readers. After the incident, Annemarie's family thought their house is no longer a safe place for hide, and decided to send Ellen's family to a safer place. Due to the nice plan of uncle, Ellen family was able to get on the boat without soldier's recognition. However, Annemarie noticed that her uncle had left something very important and tried to give that to the uncle before the boat leaves. This was the climax of the novel and it took place at the harbor. On the way Annemarie goes to the harbor, she had to avoid meeting the soldiers. The place, harbor was an appropriate place in this scene because it made more tension to the story and told readers this is an urgent situation.

To sum up, 'Number the Stars' was a great novel that the place and the time period were important. If the place of the novel were not Denmark, and harbor, the story might have been boring. The time, World War Ⅱ and the place, Denmark showed the tragic reality vividly at that time. Therefore, particular situation and the location in this novel helped readers to feel empathy to the character.

Is Gamcheon Culture Village a Successful Place Of Geotoursim

Gamcheon Culture Village is one of the representative place in Busan. Some beautiful pictures on walls and colorful villages in Gamcheon Culture Village attract many tourists. In the past, this village was a place that fall behind where the poor lived. However at 2010, government launched a project to attract tourist and began to decorate the village. Although there are some economic benefits after the development of Gamcheon Culture Village, there are some serious disadvantages that goes after.

First of all, the positive effect that Gamcheon Culture Village gives to our country is a economic benefit. Due to the increasing tourists trying to see the village, country has gained lots of profits from them. Government put lots of effort to attract tourists and to make the village a successful geotourism. There are lots of factors that lead tourists to come to the village. The most famous tour is a 'stamp tour.' There are stamps in each famous art gallery. So, by walking along the village people could get the stamps and after they get all 10 stamps, tourist can keep those as a souvenir. Also, there is a 'commentator tour' that commentator explains all the information about the village by walking together. This tour is popular because the commentators are the people who live in the Gamcheon Culture Village. In addition to this, tourists can take pictures in front of the beautiful walls and eat lots of famous food in Busan such as 'seed ho-teok.' Therefore, these factors of geotourism will contribute to a ecomomic benefit and lead to a development of the city,

On the other hand, there are some serious side effects since the development of Gamcheon Culture Village. One side effect is the disturbance of some tourists. Since Gamcheon Culture Village is the town where people really live, villagers can be disturbed by tourists. When travelers make loud noise and try to look at the house closely, the privacy of villagers could be distracted. In fact, some town people complained about tourists who were trying to open the door of their house. Also, lots of people just throw their trash anywhere and make the town dirty. Bothering village people is one of the serious problem of geotourism and this is done by some of the tourists. Tourists should have etiquette to protect the private life of the town people. Respecting others will be the best way to maintain the geotourism and to solve this negative effect.

Another side effect is the change of Gamcheon Culture Village that only focused on the tourists' favor. The main inhabitants in Gamcheon Culture Village are the old. However, today, the only interest of the government is tourist industry. As a result, government is keep making new cafes, shops, and gallery for young people. Also, in cafes and restaurant, government keep puts menus such as churros, hamburgers, and chicken which targets the young. Now, the residents of the town are uncomfortable living in their town because most of the facilities they used has gone. To be specific, public bath they used to go has gone and all the markets near their house has changed to cafes. The original form of the town shouldn't be changed in the name of geotourism.

The purpose of the project to change the village into a beautiful place was good at first. Also, it brings lots of economic benefits to the country and seemed as a successful geotourism. However there were some side effects such as disturbance of tourists and change of the original village. Government and tourists should remind the purpose of geotourism and try to solve the negative effect of tourism. We can't say Gamcheon Culture Village as a successful geotourism until the problems are solved.
